Using Software Center to Install Programs, Upgrades and Updates

For Faculty and Staff Windows machines, the software can be safely installed using the Software Center tool to install packages prepared by IT staff.  Software Center is located under All Programs in the Start Menu under Microsoft System Center, Microsoft System Center 2012, or Microsoft Endpoint Security as seen below:

The Applications tab shows optional and mandatory programs that have been made available to your system:

The Updates tab shows the Windows Updates and Upgrades that have been made available to your system.  This is where you can install the updates and upgrades either singularly or all at once by using the options available here.

After an installation starts (either application or update) to install, you can monitor the progress with the Installation Status tab.  This will also show any error information if a piece of software fails to install.  Additionally, from this tab you can also uninstall any such programs that you no longer wish to use unless they have been deemed necessary by IT:
